Laura has been an avid athlete her whole life, playing every sport she could get her hands on. In college, she won individual NCAA DIII titles in two different sports, swimming (50 yard freestyle) and track and field (400m hurdles). After college she turned to CrossFit to remain as a competitive athlete, qualifying for Regionals in 2013 and 2014, but after struggling to keep up in the longer workouts, and outlifting most of her competitors, she turned to weightlifting to fuel her competitive fire. She has since competed in two USAW nationals (2014, 2016: 13th place nationally) and the American Open (2015). Her educational background is in mechanical engineering and sports biomechanics, and she is currently at University of Louisville to earn her masters in exercise physiology. CrossFit L1, USAW L1
Laura writes all of the CrossFit and weightlifting programs for Falls City CrossFit. With her biomechanics background, and having the opportunity to regularly work with some of the best coaches and athletes in American weightlifting, she puts a large emphasis on biomechanical corrections, with and without the barbell. This will not only ensure safety during workouts, but help every client move better in their every day lives.
Katey has been an athlete her whole life, playing most sports experimentally in her youth. After her high school volleyball career ended, motherhood opened its doors to her.
Katey began her crossfit career in January of 2015, and since then has devoted herself to studying bodily mechanics, techniques of Olympic Weightlifting and crossfit, specifically mobility and performance increasing movements to amplify the structured and experienced coaching methods of Head Coach Laura. She strives to continue her learning and develop her passion for helping others realize and reach their true potential and strengths, in and out of the gym.
Katey also competes at a regional level as a 69/75kg weightlifter, qualifying for the American Open series this past December. She has been a Certified Personal Trainer for 5 years as well as a Certified Specialist of Fitness Nutrition for 3. She has recently decided to follow her passion for helping people find the fastest and most efficient paths to recovery by pursuing a Physical Therapy Assistant degree from Ivy Tech Community College of Southern Indiana, which may very well be just the beginning of her therapeutic educational career. Her educational background, eye for technique, and athletic talent have all made her into the coach she is today.
